It may seem easy to set up a hookah, but we decided it would be good for us to prepare a quick guide on how to set one up if you run into trouble.
1. Fill your glass vase about half-way with water. Overfilling it will result in possible leaks and also doesn't allow for full puffs. Be sure not to under-fill it as well because that will create a lack of smoke as well.
2. Place the hookah stem in the vase, the rubber seal should create a small vacuum and be air tight if properly done.
3. Take your hose and insert the end that has a thing rubber gasket on it, into the hose port on the stem.
4. If your hookah comes with an air valve, go ahead and screw it on but make sure that the ball bearing is loose enough to move. Be sure to check this occasionally throughout your smoke because they can eventually tend to get stuck and stop the airflow.
5. Take some of your shisha and sprinkle it into the clay bowl that rests on the stem. Be sure to lay the shisha into the bowl gently, you don't want to restrict airflow and ruin the heating process.
6. Place the metal screen on top of the bowl, or if using foil wrap it around the bowl until it it secure. When using foil, we've found that it is best to use the tip of a blade to make small slits rather than round holes. The slits keep excess ash out and still allow proper airflow.
7. Put the bowl in place and prepare your coals. The best coals usually are ones that need to be heated on the stove, but quick lights also work fairly well. Before placing your coals on the screen or foil, make sure that they are turning primarily red so as to not inhale coal smoke.
8. Begin inhaling. It will take a few minutes for the shisha to heat to the proper temperature, but take occasional puffs to ensure that the heat is getting to it.
Your done! If you think we've missed anything or have any questions, please feel free to let us know!
